The problem is which one to go to. You can either go to all of them (highly NOT recommended) or else you can choose one or two. The list is endless. I am only listing here the ones I like (except one).
Festivals are very popular in many parts of the world but let us not beat around the BUSH, festivals in the United Kingdom are the best.
Here is a list (in no particular order) of the best ones happening this year.
- MIGHTY HOOPLA – 04th June – Victoria Park, London. This is the first time for MH but I am sure it will not be the last. Expectations are high and the line up is interestingly camp – All Saints, Will Young, Snap, Technotronic and Sophie Ellis-Bextor. Festival is organised by the fabulous “Sink the Pink’ crew., so expect lots of crazy shows. I already got my ticket for this one. Oh. And you can glitter yourself from Top to Bottom (no pun intended).
2.WE ARE FSTVL – 26th – 28th May – Damyns Hall Aerodrome. This Festival boasts a super line up of superstar deejays and producers such as Carl Cox, Marco Carola, Sven Väth, Seth Troxler, The Martinez Brothers, Dizzee Rascal, Basement Jaxx, Duke Dumont, Armand Van Helden, Gorgon City, Hannah Wants, Jamie Jones and the one and only SOLOMON.
3.STANDON CALLING – 27th – 30th July – Hertfordshire. This is not one of the biggest festivals but sometimes smaller festivals can be more intimate and more fun. Orbital, Grace Jones (She is 68!), and Clean Bandit are performing. There will be street food, jazz on the lawn, and Horse Meat Disco will be there too.
4.BRITISH SUMMER TIME – 30 June & 01/02/06/08/09 July – Hyde Park. If Big big big names are your thing you should check out who will be performing at BST. Phil Collins, Blondie, Green Day, Kings of Leon, Killer and Justin Bieber are amongst the artists that will be trying their best to entertain us this Summer. If you love electronic gypsy music check out Gogol Bordello. I had seen them at Bluesfest in Byron Bay. What a set!
5.LOVEBOX – 14th & 15th July – Victoria Park. Even though I prefer the Lovebox of 4/5 years ago I will give this mention. Just for the fact that I have so many amazing memories of this Festival. This year, besides the usual deejays, Frank Ocean, Solange, Jamie xx and Sampha are performing. Not my thing. But I am sure some of you out there will love this.
6.BESTIVAL 07th – 10th September – Lulworth Estate, Dorset. This promises to be eclectic and eccentric. ‘From the most original boutique campsite experience to the Bollywood Tent, the incredible world of Caravanserai, fancy dress en masse and even a landlocked port, it’s this uniqueness that makes Bestival a wondrous world of discovery and adventure that will inspire peace, love, and dancing.’ Headliners include PetShop Boys (a good enough reason to get a ticket now), Jamie T and deejays galore – Annie Mac, Maceo Plex, JackMaster, Kölsch and Patrick Topping. The list in endless.
